What is… Emmetizeta?

I’ve always wanted to create a little blog… a personal space on the web. So, when I finally decided to make it happen and had to pick a name, I had no doubts: emmetizeta.

But why? What exactly is… emmetizeta?

Ever since I was a kid, a nickname has followed me everywhere: Moratz. Friends, classmates, colleagues, from different cities… the nickname was always the same. The fact that everyone, sooner or later, would land on it (and still does!) has always surprised me. It felt like this nickname chose me and decided to stick with me for good. Over time, I grew fond of it and made it my own.

This nickname comes from my last name. Where I grew up, in the foggy Northeast of Italy, it’s common to shorten and “twist” surnames into nicknames. So Morato became Mora… Morat… MoratZ. Of course, there’s no claim that this makes any logical sense! Especially for those who don’t speak Italian or know the cultural context… I’m just reporting the facts! :):)

Before long, Moratz got shortened again, especially in text messages: from MoraTZ to MTZ. And when you read MTZ letter by letter in Italian, it sounds like emme-ti-zeta. MTZ/emmetizeta quickly became my signature: whether it was a project, a sketch, a piece of work, a message… almost everything ended with those three letters.

So today, emmetizeta represents whatever I create or work on… it’s my world. Which, in the end, made it the perfect name for my site.

And there you have it: the mystery of emmetizeta revealed.
